Inspire Sleep RemoteInspire is controlled by the patient using the small, handheld Inspire Sleep Remote. The Inspire Sleep Remote is used to turn Inspire on before bed and off in the morning. Additionally, the patient can pause therapy during the night if needed and increase/decrease therapy settings. Inspire therapy, otherwise known as hypoglossal nerve stimulation therapy, is a new approach to treating obstructive sleep apnea. The therapy works inside your body with your natural breathing process by delivering mild stimulation to key airway muscles, allowing the airway to remain open during sleep. |
Most U.S. insurance companies cover Inspire for those patients who meet the eligibility requirements that need to be evaluated by a physician. Typically, patients can expect to pay any unmet deductible along with any copay or coinsurance fees.
The small generator device, is surgically implanted, along with small chest sensor and a wire that stimulates a nerve under the chin. This is done as an outpatient procedure. About 1 month later, after healing, the device is activated in the office at CSMA.
Each patient needs the Inspire device to be specifically tailored and treatment success requires proper settings of the generator. This process, referred to as the Inspire titration, is done over weeks to months, depending on the patient's condition. CSMA has extensive experience with Inspire therapy and is one of the main centers responsible for performing Inspire titrations in Texas.
Using Telemedicine, CSMA can also provide guidance and follow up remotely. However, making changes to the device settings does require coming into the office from time-to-time.
The small Inspire battery generator device is surgically placed under the skin in the chest. The battery lasts about 11 years and is replaced with a simple surgery.
